Broadway alum Lea Michele released a statement on July 16 about the death of her boyfriend and Glee co-star Cory Monteith at the age of 31, according to Us Weekly. Michele’s public acknowledgement of fans’ support comes on the heels of news that Monteith’s death was caused by “mixed drug toxicity” involving heroin and alcohol, according to the British Columbia Coroners Service.
"Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she's received from family, friends and fans," a representatve for the actress said. "Since Cory's passing, Lea has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them. They are supporting each other as they endure this profound loss together. We continue to ask the media to respect the privacy of Lea and Cory's family."
Monteith had voluntarily checked into rehab in March 2013 for substance addiction. The actor has frequently been open about his history with substance abuse. The actor rose to stardom with his breakout role as jock-turned-show choir member Finn Hudson on FOX's musical series Glee. He has starred on the show since its premiere in 2009. Michele’s Broadway credits include Les Miserables, Ragtime, Fiddler on the Roof and Spring Awakening.
