It looks like Magic Mike and his pelvic-thrusting pals are really on their way to the Great White Way. Deadline.com reports that Next to Normal and If/Then Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning songwriting team Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey will write the score, and Spider Man, Turn Off the Dark and American Psycho librettist Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will take on the book. No word yet on a production timeline, a theater or which handsome stage hunks will bare it all.
Magic Mike is the story of a veteran stripper who takes a newbie male dancer under his wing and coaches him about the lifestyle inside and outside the club. Based on Channing Tatum’s real-life experience as a Florida stripper, the film starred Tatum, Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey and Joe Manganiello.
The musical will be produced by Tatum, the film’s director Steven Soderbergh, the screenwriter Reid Carolin, Gregory Jacobs and Nick Wechsler.
