Stage and screen stars Kathryn Erbe and John Pankow will headline the new revival of William Inge’s Natural Affection beginning September 17 at off-Broadway’s Beckett Theatre. Directed by Jenn Thompson, the production is scheduled to open on September 26 and play a limited engagement through October 26.
Inge’s rarely produced play tells the story of a troubled young man who, abandoned early in life by his single mother (Erbe), returns from reform school to find her now living with a lover. As the tension between them mounts, their fight for forgiveness and connection gives way to desperation, setting this insecure family on a collision course of reckless, heartbreaking and almost inevitable violence. The production marks the play’s first New York City revival since opening on Broadway in 1963.
Erbe garnered a Tony nomination for The Speed of Darkness. Her additional Broadway credits include The Grapes of Wrath and A Month in the Country. Her film and TV credits include Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Stir of Echoes, What About Bob and The Love Guide. Pankow’s Broadway credits include The Iceman Cometh, Twelve Angry Men, Amadeus, Cymbeline and Serious Money. His film and TV credits include Mad About You, The Good Wife, Law & Order and Morning Glory. He currently appears on TV’s Episodes.
In addition to Erbe and Pankow, Natural Affection will feature Alec Beard, Eve Bianco, Victoria Mack, Tobi Aremu and Chris Bert. The show's creative team includes set designer John McDermott, costume designer David Toser, lighting designer Aaron Spivey, sound designer Toby Algya and prop designer Lauren Madden.
