Broadway alum MacKenzie Mauzy has landed the plum role of Princess Rapunzel in Rob Marshall’s upcoming film adaptation of Into the Woods, according to Deadline.com.
Mauzy made her Broadway debut in A Tale of Two Citites and most recently appeared off-Broadway in the musical Giant. Other credits include Next to Normal and White Noise. Her screen credits include featured roles on the soaps Guiding Light and The Bold and the Beautiful, as well as guest stints on Drop Dead Diva, Bones, CSI and Cold Case.
A reimagining of classic fairy tales, Into the Woods tells the story of the Baker (James Corden) and his wife (Emily Blunt), who make a deal with an evil witch (Meryl Streep) in order to conceive. Their journey into the woods brings the couple face-to-face with a bevy of fairy tale characters, including Red Riding Hood, Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), and Jack (Daniel Huttlestone) and his magical beans. Mauzy’s character Rapunzel is the biological sister to Corden’s character and the adopted daughter of Streep’s Witch.
