Broadway's Laura Bell Bundy is going from perky lawyer to moody MD. The Tony nominee has signed on to co-star in FX’s comedy Anger Management, according to Deadline.com. Bundy will play Dr. Jordan Benby, Charlie Sheen’s brilliant new sex-study research partner. While killing it at work, Bundy’s character is recently divorced, likes to hit the bottle and suffers from major mood swings. Anger Management airs Thursdays on FX.
Bundy is best known for originating the roles of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray on Broadway. She also starred in the Broadway production of Wicked, as well as the off-Broadway musical Ruthless. Her screen credits include featured roles on How I Met Your Mother, Guiding Light and Hart of Dixie. Bundy has also released two albums Longing for a Place Already Gone and Achin’ and Shakin’.
In Anger Management, Sheen stars as “Charlie,” a non-traditional therapist specializing in anger management. He has a successful private practice, holding sessions with his group of primary patient regulars each week, as well as performing pro bono counseling for an inmate group at a state prison.
In a Legally Blonde twist, Bundy replaces original star Selma Blair, who starred as Elle Woods’ rival Vivian Kensington in the 2001 film. Blair was reportedly let go after the first season due to issues working with Sheen.
