These two really are going to tango...forever! Dancing with the Stars duo Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy will extend their run in Luis Bravo's Forever Tango for an additional week. The pair was initially set to wrap up their run in the dance revue on August 11, but now Smirnoff and Chmerkovskiy will perform in the production through August 18 at Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre. Forever Tango officially opened on July 14.
Forever Tango features 16 dancers and an 11-piece orchestra alongside rotating celebrity vocalists. Grammy-winning "Prince of Salsa" Luis Enrique is taking the stage as a guest vocalist through August 18. Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi will join the company of Forever Tango for a two-week engagement, August 20 through September 1.
Smirnoff and Chmerkovskiy made their Broadway debuts in the 2009 dance spectacular Burn the Floor. Smirnoff won the 13th season of Dancing With the Stars partnered with Army vet J. R. Martinez and most recently made the finals (ultimately placing third) with football star Jacoby Jones. Chmerkovskiy, who choreographed La Reve at the Wynn Las Vegas, did not appear in the most recent season of DTWS.
Created and directed by Bravo, Forever Tango originally opened in 1997 at Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre before transferring to the Marquis Theatre. It earned a Tony nomination for Best Choreography. In 2004, the production returned to Broadway’s Shubert Theatre for a four-month engagement.
