The Vaudevillians, a musical comedy starring Drag Race darling Jinkx Monsoon and composer Richard Andriessen, has been extended for the fourth time at off-Broadway’s Laurie Beechman Theatre. Initially scheduled as a one-night engagement, The Vaudevillians has extended through October 29.
The musical tells the story of Kitty Witless (Monsoon) and Dr. Dan Von Dandy (Andriessen), a performing duo who toured speakeasies and burlesque theaters throughout the United States in the 1920s. Unfortunately, one day, tragedy struck: While touring Antarctica, they were victims of a devastating avalanche, instantly freezing them alive. Thanks to global warming, they recently thawed out only to discover that pop artists of various decades had stolen their music and passed it off as their own, including “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Drop It Like It’s Hot.”
Monsoon, who won RuPaul's Drag Race (season 5), is the alter ego of Jerick Hoffer, a theater performer who appeared as the lead dancer in the world’s largest drag queen chorus line. His additional stage credits include Rent, Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Spring Awakening. He is making his off-Broadway debut in The Vaudevillians.
