Denzel Washington definitely knows his Shakespeare (he played the title role in Public Theater's 1990 production of Richard III and appeared on Broadway as Brutus in Julius Caesar in 2005), but the Oscar and Tony winner brushed up on the Bard when he went to see the new contemporary revival of Romeo and Juliet. On September 7, Washington, who will return to the Great White Way in A Raisin in the Sun next spring, caught the evening performance of the classic tragedy, starring Orlando Bloom and two-time Tony nominee Condola Rashad as the titular star-crossed lovers. After the show, Washington and his wife, Pauletta Pearson Washington, went backstage to congratulate Bloom, Rashad and the rest of the company. Check out our gallery, including some snapshots of the ecstatic stage door crowd after the performance, and then head over to the Richard Rodgers Theatre to see Romeo and Juliet on Broadway!
