Buyer & Cellar is packing up and heading to the Windy City! Jonathan Tolins' zany one-man show, starring stage and screen favorite Michael Urie, will begin performances April 29, 2014 at the Broadway Playhouse in Chicago, IL. Directed by Stephen Brackett, Buyer & Cellar is scheduled to play a limited engagement through June 9. As previously announced, Urie will also appear in the Los Angeles mounting of Buyer & Cellar from July 9 through August 17 at the Center Theatre Group. The production is currently playing at off-Broadway’s Barrow Street Theatre.
The show tells the story of Alex More, a struggling Los Angeles actor who finds himself taking an odd job working in the Malibu basement of a Hollywood mega-star (who may or may not be Barbra Streisand). Buyer & Cellar launches into an outrageous look at fame and the price that accompanies it. Buyer & Cellar premiered at the Rattlestick Theatre on March 20 before transferring to the Barrow Street Theatre on June 18.
Producers also plan to bring the production to Toronto, San Francisco and Dallas. The New York production recouped its $500,000 investment and will continue to play off-Broadway through January 2014.
