Fresh off her first Tony win for her astounding performance in Pippin, Tony winner Patina Miller has joined the cast of the massively successful film franchise The Hunger Games, reports Deadline.
Miller will play Commander Paylor in the movie adaptation of the series’ third book, Mockingjay, which will be split into two separate films. For those unfamiliar with the character, SPOILER ALERT!!! Paylor is a leader in District 8 who encounters heroine Katniss Everdeen before her assault on the Capitol. Commander Paylor later plays a pivotal role in the Capitol’s government after the events of the third book. END OF SPOILERS
The cast of Mockingjay will also include Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Natalie Dormer, Lily Rabe, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Evan Ross and Stef Dawson. The second film in the series, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, is due for release on November 22, 2013.
Miller is currently wooing audiences on the high trapeze as the Leading Player in the acclaimed Broadway revival of Pippin. She made her Broadway debut in Sister Act and earned a Tony nomination for her performance as Deloris Van Cartier, the role made famous by Whoopi Goldberg on film. Miller also appeared in Romantic Poetry at MTC and the 2008 production of Hair in Central Park.
