Taye Diggs to Romance Zooey Deschanel on TV's New Girl

Broadway vet Taye Diggs has signed on to guest star on FOX’s hit comedy New Girl, appearing in the third season as a potential romantic interest (or distraction) for Zooey Deschanel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Diggs will appear in the third season in a one-off appearance as Artie, a “smooth, confident ladies man” who sets his sights on Jess. The casting is intriguing if only because New Girl has just paired up main characters Jess (Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson). With Diggs on board as a potential love interest for Jess, could the budding relationship be headed for trouble?

Diggs has appeared on Broadway in Wicked, Chicago, Rent and Carousel. He starred on screen in TV's  Private Practice and will appear in the forthcoming feature films Baggage Claim and The Best Man Holiday.
