From one night only to five-times extended! RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon’s raucous off-Broadway musical The Vaudevillians has announced a fifth extension at off-Broadway’s Laurie Beechman Theatre, where it will now run through November 11.
Initially conceived as a one-night-only engagement, The Vaudevillians follows 1920s burlesque performers Kitty Witless (Monsoon) and Dr. Dan Von Dandy (the show’s composer Richard Andriessen), who toured speakeasies throughout the country until a tragic avalanche in Antarctica froze them alive. After being thawed by global warming, the two vow to reclaim their music after they discover that pop artists of various decades have stolen their songs and passed them off as their own, including “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Drop It Like It’s Hot.”
Before becoming part of the hottest act ever frozen alive, Monsoon began his career as Jerick hoffer, a theater performer who danced lead in the world’s largest drag queen chorus line. Around the country, Monsoon has torn up the stage in Spring Awakening, Rent and Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
