Though they’re not necessarily playing Rooster and Lily, Rent alum Tracie Thoms and Southland’s Dorian Missick have joined the cast of Sony’s upcoming Annie remake in a pair of familiar roles.
Deadline reports that Thoms and Missick will play Annie’s “fake parents,” which suggest that they could be stepping into whatever director Will Gluck has planned for the Rooster-Lily characters who try to con their way into a paycheck by pretending to be Annie’s real mother and father.
The duo join a cast that already includes some buzzy names: Quvenzhane Wallis as Annie, Cameron Diaz as Miss Hannigan, Jamie Foxx as the wealthy Benjamin Stacks, Rose Byrne as Grace, Bobby Cannavale as a political advisor, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as bodyguard Nash and David Zayas as a friendly bodega owner.
Broadway fans recognize Thoms as Joanne from the 2005 film adaptation of Rent, but she’s also well-known from her starring role on the long-running series Cold Case and on Broadway in Rent, Stick Fly and Drowning Crow. Missick stars on the crime drama Southland; his other film credits include Lucky Number Slevin, The Manchurian Candidate and The Bounty Hunter.
