As the old saying goes: couples that play together stay together! Husband-and-wife singing duo John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey are set for a month-long engagement at New York’s Café Carlyle, beginning on October 29 and concluding on November 23. The duo brought their last show, This Must Be The Place, to the legendary cabaret lounge last year.
The new show, titled Children and Art (borrowed from the Sondheim song of the same name), is their most autobiographical one yet and explores the challenge at the heart of their lives together: balancing marriage, parenthood and their art. Molaskey will sing with Pizzarelli, who will play guitar and lead a quartet that includes his brother Martin Pizzarelli on bass, Konrad Paszkudzki on piano and Kevin Kanner on drums.
Molaskey made her Broadway debut in 1979 in the singing ensemble of Oklahoma! before going on to star in Parade, Sunday in the Park with George, Cats, The Who’s Tommy, Chess and Crazy For You, among others. Pizzarelli is an acclaimed jazz guitarist who performed on Broadway in 1997’s Dream (alongside Molaskey) and has recorded over twenty solo albums, as well as joint albums with his father, Bucky Pizzarelli, and Molaskey.
