On October 30, the mega-hit and all-time best Broadway Musical Wicked will celebrate its 10-year anniversary at the Great White Way's Gershwin Theatre! Original cast member Kristen Gorski-Wergeles opened up to Broadway.com about what her favorite memories are from the show, but we wanted to know what fans remember most. So, in honor of the musical's huge milestone, we asked readers to decide which iconic moment from the blockbuster show is their hands-down, cross-their-hearts-hope-to-die favorite. Check out the results!
1. Elphaba Rises Into The Sky On Her Broomstick - 43%
The fans have spoken, and 43% of our readers say that Elphaba's wickedness-confirming, gravity-defying, Act I-closing moment is obviously their favorite! Let's face it, for most of us, when we think of Wicked, we think of Elphaba flying away from the palace guards and belting composer Stephen Schwartz' showstopping number, "Defying Gravity." It's monumental, it's quintessential and it's just downright wicked.
2. Elphaba And Glinda Say Goodbye "For Good" - 16%
Who could ever forget: "I know I'm who I am today because I knew you." Not us! Toward the end of the musical, Elphaba and Glinda realize that they've been changed forever by their friendship and sing farewell to one another. When Elphaba tells Glinda, "Whatever way our stories end, I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend." Tears! Tears for days! There's a reason Kristin continues to perform "For Good."
3. "For The First Time, I Feel Wicked" - 8%
Elphaba and Fiyero's duet, "As Long As Your Mine," is when they finally express their love for another while knowing that it may not last, and it's also when our favorite green witch says she feels "wicked" for the first time. Feel those chills? After the song, Elphaba rushes to help her sister Nessarose (the Wicked Witch of the East), whom she believes to be in trouble. It's pretty much all downhill for the two lovebirds after that.
