Much like us, Raul Esparza can't get enough of NBC's Hannibal! The four-time Tony nominee will resume his role as Dr. Frederick Chilton in the second season of Bryan Fuller's critically-lauded TV adaptation of the uber-popular and gruesome book series. According to ScreenCrush.com, Esparza will film "occasional appearances" opposite Mads Mikkelsen's Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Hugh Dancy's Will Graham.
Fans of the grisly series were unsure whether Esparza would be able to resprise his role as the administrator of Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane since the actor was upgraded to a series regular as ADA Rafael Barba on NBC's Law & Order: SVU. (P.S. NBC really loves Raul, huh?) However, Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Mockingbird Lane) recently tweeted a photo confirming Esparza’s return to the Hannibal set.
Hannibal is based on the series of novels by Thomas Harris and focuses on the budding relationship between FBI criminal profiler Will Graham and Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a forensic psychiatrist destined to become Graham's most cunning enemy. The series received a 13 episode order for its first season, and was approved for a second season back in May.
Esparza received Tony nominations for Speed-the-Plow, The Homecoming, Company and Taboo and has appeared on Broadway in Leap of Faith, Arcadia, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Rocky Horror Show and Cabaret. His off-Broadway work includes Twelfth Night, The Normal Heart, Comedians and tick,tick...BOOM! Esparza's film and TV credits include Pushing Daisies, My Soul to Take, Medium and Find Me Guilty.
