If you’ve ever been rocking out to Britney Spears and thought, “Hey, this music really lines up with the teachings of Jesus Christ,” the wait is finally over. Spears: The Gospel According to Britney, a musical about the resurrection of Jesus set to Britney Spears songs, will receive a reading on November 7 at Broadway’s Foxwoods Theatre. Casting has not yet been announced. We’re hoping to God this is a comedy.
Directed by Michael Bello and created by Patrick Blute, Spears originally premiered in April 2012 at Columbia University’s Glicker-Milstein Theater. The story of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is paired with Britney favorites like “Stronger,” “One More Time” and “Crazy” (a song that also describes some of our feelings about this musical).
The Spears creative team is currently working to secure the copyright for the Grammy winner’s catalogue of songs. We'll pray for you.
