Check, please! Broadway's romantic musical comedy First Date will end its six-month run at the Longacre Theatre on January 5. The new musical, which marked the dazzling Broadway debut of former Chuck star Zachary Levi, will have played 34 previews and 174 regular performances at the time of closing.
The show tells the story of the tightly wound Aaron (Levi) and serial dater Casey (Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner Krysta Rodriguez), whose first date is chronicled as it unfolds over the course of one hilarious evening. A quick drink turns into an eventful dinner served with sides of Google background checks, fake emergency phone calls and a slew of bad boy and uptown girl exes.
First Date, which started previews on July 9 and opened August 8, also stars Sara Chase, Kristoffer Cusick, Blake Hammond, Kate Loprest and Bryce Ryness.
First Date features a book by Austin Winsberg, music and lyrics by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner and direction by Bill Berry. The creative team includes musical staging by Josh Rhodes, scenic and media design by David Gallo, costumes by David C. Woolard, lighting by Mike Baldassari, sound by Kai Harada and hair by Josh Marquette.
