All the Way, starring Breaking Bad favorite Bryan Cranston, has found a home on Broadway! The new Lyndon B. Johnson bio play by Robert Schenkkan will begin performances February 10 at the Neil Simon Theatre. The theater currently houses Big Fish, which will close December 29. Directed by Bill Rauch, All the Way is slated to open March 6.
Michael McKean and Brandon J. Dirden will join Cranston as J. Edgar Hoover and Dr. Martin Luther King, respectively. All three cast members will reprise their roles after starring in the American Repertory Theater production in September. Casting for Hubert Humphrey (played by Reed Birney in the A.R.T. mounting) has not yet been announced.
McKean was last seen on Broadway in The Best Man, but had to cut the run short when he was hit by a car. His additional Broadway credits include The Homecoming, The Pajama Game, Hairspray and Accomplice. His film and TV credits include This Is Spinal Tap, Laverne & Shirley, Best In Show and A Mighty Wind.
Dirden has appeared on Broadway in Clybourne Park, Enron and Prelude to a Kiss. His off-Broadway credits include Peter and the Starcatcher and The First Breeze of Summer.
Beginning with the Kennedy assassination, All the Way details the first year of Johnson’s presidency, focusing on his involvement with the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The play opens on Air Force One on November 23, 1963, as the plane transports the body of President Kennedy back to Washington D.C., and Johnson summons his courage to take on the role of commander in chief.
All the Way will feature set design by Christopher Acebo, costume design by Deborah M. Dryden, lighting design by Jane Cox, composition and sound design by Paul James Prendergast and video projections by Shawn Sagady.
