Lady Day, the inspiring story of Billie Holiday’s final comeback concert, will play its last performance January 5, 2014 at off-Broadway’s Little Shubert Theatre. At the time of closing, the production will have played 16 previews and 94 regular performances. Lady Day stars Tony and Grammy winner Dee Dee Bridgewater as the legendary jazz singer.
Featuring a score of iconic Holiday hits, Lady Day brings the essence and spirit of the late singer-songwriter to the stage. Joining Bridgewater are David Ayers as Robert and Rafael Poueriet as Assistant Stage Manager, as well as bassist Jim Cammack, saxophone player Ken Hitchcock, drummer Jerome Jennings and pianist Bill Jolly.
Lady Day was originally produced at the Theatre de Boulogne-Billancourt and the Theatre du Gymnase Marie Bell in Paris, as well as the Donmar Warehouse and the Piccadilly Theatre in London. Bridgewater garnered an Olivier nomination for her performance.
