Wicked's Derek Klena and Spring Awakening alum Caitlin Kinnunen will join the cast of the Broadway musical adaptation of The Bridges of Madison County, starring Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara and Steven Pasquale. Klena takes over the role of Michael from Nick Bailey, who appeared in the premiere of the tuner at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in August, and Kinnunen will reprise her role as Caroline. Directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher, The Bridges of Madison County will begin previews on January 17, 2014 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Opening night is scheduled for February 20.
As previously reported, the cast of The Bridges of Madison County will also feature Tony nominee Hunter Foster as Bud, Cass Morgan as Marge and Michael X. Martin as Charlie. Based on the novel by Robert James Waller, The Bridges of Madison County features music and lyrics by Tony winner Jason Robert Brown and a book by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman. The musical tells the story of a devoted Iowa housewife named Francesca Johnson (O'Hara) and her unlikely love affair with Robert Kincaid (Pasquale), a National Geographic photographer.
Klena made his Broadway debut as Fiyero in Wicked and appeared in the off-Broadway productions of Dogfight and Carrie. His film and TV credits include The Tomorrow People and The Carrie Diaries. Kinnunen made her Broadway debut as Thea in Spring Awakening and was part of the first national tour of Next to Normal. Her film and TV credits include Law & Order: SVU, It's Kind of a Funny Story and Sweet Little Lies.
