The first major snowstorm of 2014, named Winter Storm Hercules, brought near-blizzard conditions and bitter cold temperatures to New York City, but, as we all know, the shows must go on! According to The Broadway League, all Broadway shows will play as scheduled for today, January 3. That's right, your good friends Elphaba, Pippin, Cinderella, Lola, Simba, Matilda, Frankie Valli, Elder Price, Phantom, Jack Kelly and more are ready to play.
"This has been and remains a dangerous storm. It is going to be bitter cold today, and New Yorkers need to be extremely careful going outdoors," said Mayor Bill de Blasio, in a statement. "The best things people can do are to stay off the roads so we can clear them as fast as possible, and to check in on elderly and vulnerable neighbors who might need help this morning."
So, use this as a permission slip to safely trek out into the NYC winter wonderland and go see one of the amazing shows currently lighting up the Great White Way. Even better: get bundled up in your warmest duds, throw on some heavy duty boots, slip on your favorite pair of gloves and listen to Broadway.com’s 2014 Workout Playlist on Spotify while you make your way to a Broadway show.
