What a way to ring in 2014! Tony-winning comedian and actress Lily Tomlin made it official on December 31 with her partner of many years, writer Jane Wagner. Gossip maven Liz Smith wrote in her syndicated column, "My longtime friends, Lily Tomlin and her love, the writer Jane Wagner, got married on the eve of 2014…My wish is that their happiness will be as great as their combined talents.”
Tomlin and Wagner met in 1971 and began a romantic and creative relationship. The newlyweds wrote Tomlin’s successful Broadway shows together: Appearing Nitely in 1977 and The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe in 1986, which won Tomlin the Tony for Best Actress in a Play. It was revived in 2001.
In addition to their stage credits, the couple have collaborated on Lily, The Lily Tomlin Show, Lily: Sold Out, The Incredible Shrinking Woman and more.
