Tony nominee and Pulitzer finalist Jon Robin Baitz’s latest TV series The Slap has been picked up by NBC. Baitz will pen and executive produce all eight episodes. Meanwhile, his The Substance of Fire has been added to Second Stage Theatre's 35th anniversary season and is set to begin performances this spring.
The Slap is based on the acclaimed Australian project of the same name that aired in 2011. The mini series is a complex family drama that explodes from one small incident where a man slaps another couple’s misbehaving child. This seemingly minor domestic dispute pulls the family apart, begins to expose long-held secrets, and ignites a lawsuit that challenges the core American values of all who are pulled into it.
Baitz received a Tony nomination for Other Desert Cities. Other work includes The Film Society, The End of The Day, Three Hotels, A Fair Country, an adaptation of Hedda Gabler and TV’s Brothers & Sisters, Alias and The West Wing.
