Tony and Grammy winner Billy Porter is set to release a solo album, Billy’s Back on Broadway, on April 15. The Kinky Boots star has somehow managed to get Grammy, Emmy and Tony-winning icon Cyndi Lauper to duet with him on one of the tracks. Wonder how he managed that?!
Porter credits Barbra Streisand for this latest turn in his career path. “When Barbra released her first Broadway album I was about 15 years old,” he said. “I thought, ‘One day, I’m going to make my own Broadway album – just like Babs!’” Music history buffs will note that the album’s title is a nod to Sammy Davis, Jr.’s recording Sammy’s Back on Broadway.
Featuring ten classics made famous on the Great White Way, Billy’s Back on Broadway’s numbers will include “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” “I’ve Gotta Be Me” and "Luck Be A Lady." He’ll partner with Lauper, who of course penned the music to Kinky Boots, on "Happy Days/Get Happy."
