Baz Luhrmann has assembled a roster of some of the biggest composers in the music business to collaborate with him and co-writer Craig Pearce on the long-in-the-works Strictly Ballroom the Musical. They include Grammy winners David Foster and Diane Warren, along with Australian talents Elliott Wheeler, Sia Furler and Eddie Perfect. The production, starring Thomas Lacey and Phoebe Panaretos will begin its run at the Lyric Theatre in Sydney, Australia on March 25, with opening night set for April 12.
Foster has won 16 Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award and received three Oscar nods for his work with artists including Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Madonna. Warren has written for artists including Elton John, Cher and Tina Turner. Wheeler collaborated with Luhrmann on The Great Gatsby, while Furler has been behind recent hits for artists including Beyoncé and Katy Perry. Perfect’s credits include Shane Warne: The Musical.
Along with new numbers, the tuner will feature classic songs from Luhrmann’s 1992 film of the same name including Love is in the Air, Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps and Time After Time.
