The Queen musical We Will Rock You is to close after 12 years at the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End. With book and direction from British comedian Ben Elton, the show officially opened on 14 May, 2002 and will shutter on 31 May after almost 4600 performances. According to the Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye, Motown: the Musical will replace it.
"We want to thank every one of the many hundreds of incredible musical theatre artists, musicians and crew with whom we've had the privilege of working at the Dominion since 2002,” said co-creators Brian May, Roger Taylor and Elton in a statement. “And of course the incredible audiences who have rewarded them with over four and a half thousand standing ovations!”
Packed with the hits of the legendary band, We Will Rock You is a jukebox musical about a young rebel named Galileo who tries to overtake a powerful corporation in a futuristic dystopia. The show includes 24 Queen songs, including “We Are the Champions,” “Another One Bites the Dust” and “Somebody To Love.”
