Erin Mackey will lead the cast in Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific at Paper Mill Playhouse. Directed by Rob Ruggiero and choreographed by Ralph Perkins, the classic musical will play April 9 through May 4. Opening night is set for April 13.
Joining Mackey as Ensign Nellie Forbush (Anything Goes, Wicked), will be Opera star Jason Howard as Emile de Becque, Tony nominee Loretta Ables Sayre (South Pacific on Broadway) as Bloody Mary, Tally Sessions (Big Fish) as Luther Billis, Doug Carpenter as Lt. Joe Cable and Jessica Wu (A Chorus Line) as Liat. The cast will also feature Jordan Lage, Ryan Andes, Bonale Fambrini, Gabby Gutierrez, Avery Espiritu, Sydney Veloso, Andrés Acosta, Faye Bautista, Grady McLeod Bowman, Will Burton, Meggie Cansler, Matt Faucher, Joanne Javien, Caitlin Maloney, Christian Marriner, George Merrick, Brian Ogilvie, Samantha Joy Pearlman, Michael Scirrotto, Paige Sommerer, Ryan Steer, Jeff Sullivan, Teddy Tinson, Grace Wales and Gregory Williams.
Scene design will be by Michael Yeargan, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting by John Lasiter and sound design by Randy Hansen.
With music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan, South Pacific is a story of romance and love set against the backdrop of a tropical island during World War II, featuring iconic melodies like "Some Enchanted Evening," "Younger Than Springtime," and "There Is Nothing Like a Dame.” South Pacific’s original Broadway and revival runs have won a combined total of 17 Tony Awards.
