Chris Pine and Lauren Ambrose will headline Sam Shepard's Fool for Love at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. As previously announced, Chita Rivera and opera star Renee Fleming are set to appear on the Main Stage for WTF's upcoming 60th anniversary season.
Directed by Daniel Aukin, Fool for Love explores the tangled relationship of two former lovers in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert. Pine, who is famous for playing Star Trek's Captain Kirk on the big screen, is returning to Williamstown after 12 years, while Ambrose, who was last seen on Broadway in Exit the King makes her WTF debut in the revival. Fool for Love will run from July 24 through August 3.
Williamstown will also present the East Coast premiere of Samuel D. Hunter’s A Great Wilderness, which will kick off the Nikos Stage Season. The play tells the story of a Christian retreat leader and “curer” of gay teens who, on the brink of retirement, is forced to reexamine his previously unwavering moral compass. The production will run from July 9 through July 20.
The season will end with the return of the PigPen Theatre Co.’s imaginative production of The Old Man and the Old Moon, a song-filled epic tale of an old man who must abandon his duties of filling up the moon with liquid light to cross the seas in search of his missing wife. The show, which was a hit off-Broadway, will play July 24 through August 3.
