From stage show, to movie, to sequel, to stage show of the sequel! Full casting has been announced for Cool Rider, the stage adaptation of the 1982 cult Grease sequel. As previously announced, the concert production, which returns to the West End at the Duchess Theatre from April 15 through 19 following a one-night-only concert, will star Ashleigh Gray and Aaron Sidwell as Stephanie and Michael, two roles immortalized on screen by Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfield. Guy Unsworth will direct.
Joining Gray and Sidwell will be BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing standout Mark Benton as Mr. Stuart, Blood Brothers’ Niki Evans as Ms. Mason, in addition to Stewart Clarke, Luke Fetherston, Joshua Dowen, Harry Francis, Hannah Levane, Bronte Barbe, Lucinda Lawrence, James Darch, Fela Lufadeju, Katy Hards, Lisa Ritchie, Jak Allen Anderson, Joseph O’Reilly, Danielle Mullan, Simone Murphy and Parisa Shahmir.
Grease 2 tells the love story of Pink Lady Stephanie Zinone and English transfer student Michael Carrington. The musical follows their road to romance from bowling alley to burger joint, sing-a-long-a-sex education class to talent show, and long (and beautifully lit) romantic motorcycle rides to a slightly incongruous luau ending. Fans of the cult favorite can expect to see tunes such as “Who’s That Guy?,” “Rock-a-Hula Luau (Summer is Coming), and, of course, “Cool Rider” jump from screen to stage.
We won’t confirm or deny if a certain Broadway.com Editor-In-Chief is blasting the Grease 2 soundtrack in celebration, but if he hasn’t already booked his flight, today’s the day.
