Another week, another milestone for Frozen—the movie has become the highest-grossing animated film of all time. Variety reports that the Disney favorite has now grossed $1.072 billion, surpassing 2010’s Toy Story 3.
Frozen, loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen and featuring the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad and Santino Fontana, is the first billion dollar film from Disney Animation studios. It won two Oscars, for best animated film and original song for “Let It Go.” The win for the now iconic mega-hit number, sung by the wickedly talented Menzel, meant that The Book of Mormon scribe Robert Lopez, who co-wrote the score with his wife, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, was the twelfth member to join the exclusive EGOT club.
We can’t wait to see what the Broadway musical adaptation can do!
