Get ready for more Vagina, Nueva York! The Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler’s popular collection of female empowerment monologues, will return to the Westside Theater, where it ran between 1999 and 2003. But this time, it’s getting a Spanish makeover. A Spanish version of the play entitled Los Monólogos de la Vagina, based on a production that has been running in Mexico City for over a decade, will play off-Broadway beginning May 6, according to The New York Times.
Jaime Matareedona, the director of the Mexico City production, will make his New York directorial debut with the new production.
Based on interviews with a diverse group of women—from a Long Island antique dealer to a Bosnian refugee—The Vagina Monologues brazenly explores the humor, power, pain, wisdom, outrage, mystery and excitement hidden in vaginas.
