Relax, the Frozen musical isn’t being fast-tracked and Idina Menzel is not leaving If/Then to don that crazy ice gown and belt a chart-topping pop ballad eight times a week. Well, at least not yet. Menzel, who is now a Variety cover girl, was recently honored at the magazine's Power of Women luncheon, and while there, Cosmopolitan asked if the Tony winner and billboard chart topper would want to play Elsa on Broadway? Her answer? “Yes! Sure! Absolutely!” Right answer, Menzel!
“It is a huge compliment,” Menzel says of the buzz surrounded by the film, including the near impossibility of finding that damn Elsa dress in stores. “It was such a dream of mine to be in the Disney family and become an animated queen.”
Broadway.com reported in January that Disney Theatrical Productions have confirmed that the Oscar-winning blockbuster Frozen is in early development for a Broadway adaptation. Who knows when Elsa’s snow magic will flurry through the air onto the Great White Way, but we seriously can’t wait! Now, if Menzel's on board, how about other stage faves and Frozen co-stars Santino Fontana, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad?
