It was the hottest off-Broadway property on the market last year and now Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron’s new musical Fun Home is eyeing a move to the Great White Way. According to The New York Times, the Pulitzer finalist, which recently picked up the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, is looking to begin performances on Broadway in Spring 2015. No word yet on casting, theater or specific dates.
Directed by Sam Gold, the off-Broadway production starred Tony winner Michael Cerveris and Tony nominee Judy Kuhn. Fun Home opened at the Public's Newman Theater on October 22, 2013 and extended multiple times before ending its run on January 12.
Based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel, Fun Home charts a girl’s quest to come to terms with her father’s unexpected death. As she moves between past and present, Alison dives into the story of her volatile, brilliant father and relives her unique childhood at her family’s funeral home. In addition to Cerveris and Kuhn, the off-Broadway cast also included Emily Skeggs, Griffin Birney, Roberta Colindrez, Noah Hinsdale, Sydney Lucas, Beth Malone and Joel Perez.
