Discussions are under way to adapt the recently extended Tony-nominated play Casa Valentina for film. According to Deadline, it has not yet been decided whether the movie would be big screen or cable-bound.
Written by Harvey Fierstein, Casa Valentina tells the story of a discrete venue for men who enjoy dressing up and acting as women. When the opportunity to become an official organization arises, the dress-donning men must decide whether this would help gain their clientele recognition in society or wreck havoc on their personal lives.
The production picked up four Tony nods: Best Play, Best Featured Actor and Actress for Reed Birney and Mare Winningham respectively, and Best Costume Design for Rita Ryack. In addition to Birney and Winningham, cast members include Tom McGowan, Larry Pine, Nick Westrate, and Lisa Emery.
