The Queen is dead, long live the King! The Almeida Theatre’s acclaimed production of Mike Bartlett's King Charles III will transfer to London’s West End. Directed by Rupert Goold, the show will play a limited engagement at the Wyndham’s Theatre beginning September 2 through November 29, with press night set for September 11. Tim Pigott-Smith will reprise his performance in the titular role.
The Queen is dead: after a lifetime of waiting, the prince ascends the throne. A future of power. But how to rule? The controversial play explores the people underneath the crowns, the unwritten rules of our democracy, and the conscience of Britain's most famous family.
The cast also includes Richard Goulding, Nyasha Hatendi, Adam James, Margot Leicester, Tom Robertson, Nicholas Rowe, Tafline Steen and Lydia Wilson. Further casting will be announced later.
King Charles III is designed by Tom Scutt, with music composed by Jocelyn Pook, lighting designed by Jon Clark and sound by Paul Arditti.
