Los Monólogos de la Vagina, the Spanish language production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues now playing at off-Broadway's Westside Theatre, will welcome three new stars this summer to talk about all things vaginas (en Español, of course). Scrubs star Judy Reyes will take the stage from June 24 through July 20. Ana Maria Polo, host of the Emmy-nominated Caso Cerrado, will step in from July 22 through July 27 and August 5 through August 17. TV host Andrea Legarreta will appear in the show for one week only from July 29 through August 3.
Reyes, known for her performance as nurse Carla Espinosa in the series Scrubs, can currently be seen in the Lifetime series Devious Maids as Zoila Diaz. Polo received a National Daytime Emmy nomination for her work on the Telemundo show Caso Cerrado. Legarreta, who hosts the popular Mexican series Hoy, appeared in the Mexico City production of Monólogos, in addition to several telenovelas.
Based on interviews with a diverse group of women—from a Long Island antique dealer to a Bosnian refugee—The Vagina Monologues brazenly explores the humor, power, pain, wisdom, outrage, mystery and excitement hidden in vaginas. The original production played over 1300 performances from 1999 to 2003 at the Westside Theatre. Directed by Jaime Matarredonna, Los Monólogos de la Vagina is modeled after the current Mexico City production, now in its 14th year.
Loz Monólogos de la Vagina currently stars Kate del Castillo, Angélica María and Angélica Vale. As previously reported, Tony nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega will begin performances on June 3 and appear in the show through June 22, accompanied by Maria Cellario and Flor de Liz Perez. Beginning June 3, English translation headsets will be made available to audience members.
