Forbidden Broadway Comes Out Swinging! will play its final performance on July 20 at the Davenport Theatre. The comedy revue from Gerard Alessandrini began off-Broadway on March 17 and opened officially on May 4.
The new edition of the show, which is directed by Phillip George and Alessandrini with musical direction by David Caldwell, lampoons Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Kinky Boots, Matilda, Rocky, Cabaret, Aladdin, Pippin, Les Miserables, Motown, The Sound of Music Live! and Bullets Over Broadway among others. The current cast features Carter Calvert, Scott Richard Foster, Mia Gentile and Marcus Stevens.
Alessandrini revealed in a statement plans to bring back the long-running New York staple eventually, saying, “We've had a great five months this year, and will take a break, and come back with the new edition when there are new shows and stars to spoof!"
As previously reported, Forbidden Broadway is currently playing London’s Menier Chocolate Factory, where it will open officially on July 2. A limited engagement is also planned for Feinstein’s in San Francisco from July 10 through July 27.
