Your favorite Broadway bachelor is indeed heading into the New York dating scene. (Sort of.) As Aaron Tveit revealed on his recent episode of Show People with Paul Wontorek, he will lead a romantic comedy on the big screen. The film, titled Stereotypically You, will also star Saturday Night Live alum Abby Elliott. The news follows the announcement that Tveit will star opposite Glee’s Kevin McHale in the upcoming They Might Be Kennedys (in which he was originally cast in a featured role). That’s two starring roles in less than two weeks!
Stereotypically You follows Charlie Carroll (Tveit), who, after quitting his job and dumping his girlfriend, finds himself thrown in the dark waters of the NYC dating pool. Charlie embarks on a post-breakup quest to find new love (and himself), all while haunted by surreal hallucinations, flashbacks and fantasies. The film also features Tony nominee Annaleigh Ashford, Kal Penn and Lauren Miller.
Tveit most recently starred on Broadway in Catch Me If You Can and took home a Broadway.com Audience Choice Award for his breakout performance in Next to Normal. His other Broadway credits include Wicked and Hairspray. Tveit can be seen on screen in the USA series Graceland. His film creduts include Les Miserables and the upcoming indie films Undrafted and Big Sky. He can also make a salmon suit with shorts look good.
Stereotypically You, now in post-production, is written and directed by Benjamin Cox. It is expected to premiere later this year.
