Tony nominee Tony Shalhoub will join the cast of Nurse Jackie for the Showtime series’ seventh season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Emmy winner will play Dr. Bernard Prince, a new ER doctor and friend of Jackie (played by Edie Falco). The show concluded its sixth season on June 29.
Shalhoub was nominated for Tony Awards for his performances in Act One, Golden Boy and Conversations with My Father. His additional Broadway credits include Lend Me a Tenor, The Heidi Chronicles and The Odd Couple. He took home Emmy Awards in 2003, 2004 and 2006 for Monk.
Falco, who is also a Broadway vet, won an Emmy in 2010 for her performance as Jackie Peyton, a New York City nurse who struggles with drug addiction and several dramas in her professional and personal life. Additional theater names who have appeared in the series, which films in New York, include Bobby Cannavale, Laura Benanti, Marcy Harriell, Rebecca Naomi Jones, John Treacy Egan, Harvey Fierstein, Andrea Martin, Judith Ivey, Gregory Jbara and Celia Keenan-Bolger.
