London's Menier Chocolate Factory Season to Include Michael Urie in Buyer & Cellar, Assassins & More

The Menier Chocolate Factory’s winter season will kick off this November with the Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman musical Assassins. Following the new production, Michael Urie will bring Babs' Malibu mall across the pond for the U.K. premiere of Buyer and Cellar.

Featuring a score by Sondheim and a book by Weidman, Assassins is a revue-style musical that examines the people throughout American history who have attempted, whether successfully or not, to assassinate the president of the United States. The new production, which will run from November 21 through March 7, 2015, will be directed by Jamie Lloyd. Casting and creative team will be announced at a later date.

Beginning March 11, 2015, Michael Urie will reprise his acclaimed performance in the U.K. premiere of Buyer and Cellar. The comedy, written by Jonathan Tolins, follows a struggling Los Angeles actor who also works in a personal shopping mall…located in the basement of Barbra Streisand’s California home. Urie originated the role in New York, and is currently performing in the show across North America. The show will end its run on May 2.

Additionally, for one night only, Dame Joan Plowright will sit down with director Richard Digby Day to discuss her career in London and on Broadway, as well as the establishment of the National Theatre alongside her husband, Laurence Olivier. An Evening with Joan Plowright will take place on September 14.
