Rosie Perez, Jayne Houdyshell, Jonny Orsini, Jerry Adler and Jake Cannavale will join Seinfeld co-creator Larry David in his previously reported first play, Fish in the Dark. Directed by Tony winner Anna D. Shapiro, the show will begin previews on February 2 and officially open on March 5 at the Cort Theatre on Broadway. Additional casting will be announced later.
Perez received an Oscar nod for her performance in Fearless. Her Broadway credits include The Ritz, Reckless, The Play What I Wrote and Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune. Houdyshell was nominated for Tony awards for her performances in Well and the most recent revival of Follies. Orsini’s Broadway credits include Macbeth and The Nance. Adler’s screen credits include The Sopranos. Cannavale is making his Broadway debut; his screen credits include Nurse Jackie.
David described the play to The New York Times as a comedy with around 15 characters that explores a family death. The playwright revealed that he would portray “somebody very similar to Larry David—it might even by Larry David with a different name.”
The production will have scenic design by Todd Rosenthal, costume design by Ann Roth and lighting design by Brian MacDevitt.
