Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today.
See Benedict Cumberbatch & Jonny Lee Miller's Frankenstein
Troubled by the fact that you missed the now legendary production of Frankenstein, starring Olivier winners Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternating the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature? Help is at hand. Directed by Oscar winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) at the U.K.’s National Theatre in 2011, the show was fortunately filmed twice (so you can see the actors in both roles). And thanks to unprecedented audience demand (no idea who they could mean by that), you will be able to see Frankenstein at select movie theaters worldwide on October 27 and 29. There’s a teaser trailer below. You’re welcome.
May the Force Be With London's Almeida Theatre
Heading to London in the relatively near future? Once again the Almeida Theatre should be on your list of places to visit. Star Wars' Ian McDiarmid is set to play Shylock in the Rupert Goold-helmed The Merchant of Venice at the venue, beginning previews on December 5. Originally produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company, the production will run through February 14, 2015, with opening night scheduled for December 15. Other highlights of the winter-spring season include the site specific Wallace Shawn’s The Fever, directed by Robert Icke
at The May Fair Hotel, the world premiere of Mark Bartlett's Game and the U.K. premiere of Simon Stephens’s Carmen Disruption.
Broadway's Kevin Cahoon Teams Up With Franco & Quinto
Kevin Cahoon (The Wedding Singer, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Lion King) has joined previously announced fellow Broadway alums James Franco and Zachary Quinto in the cast of Michael. Franco stars in the movie's title role as real life gay activist and magazine founder Michael Glatze who was “saved” from his homosexuality after turning to God and eventually became a Christian pastor. Cahoon will play Peter Ian Cummings, Michael’s boss and friend.
Broadway's Andrea McArdle to Headline Hello, Dolly!
This is delicious. Great White Way Vet Andrea McArdle is set to return to Pennsylvania’s The Media Theatre as Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly! in spring 2015. Broadway’s youngest Tony-nominated actress when she portrayed the starring role in the original production of Annie in 1977, McArdle’s subsequent Great White Way credits include State Fair, Beauty and the Beast, Starlight Express and Les Miz. You can catch her star turn April 15, 2015 through May 17.
