Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today.
Lea Salonga & Jonathan Pryce Will Return to Saigon
The first Miss Saigon Lea Salonga has confirmed on her Facebook page that she, along with original stars Jonathan Pryce and Simon Bowman, will be performing at the previously reported 25th anniversary celebration of the show. Not one of the lucky few to have a ticket to the gala performance of the new West End revival on September 22? The event will be recorded for posterity and broadcast later on BBC Radio 2.
Stephen Sondheim, Julie Andrews & Sting's Once-in-a-Century Party
We can see how celebrations like this only come round once every hundred years. Sting and Berry Gordy are just some of the presenter-performers who will take part in the ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Centennial Awards Gala on November 17. Gordy will also serve as one of the evening’s Honorary Chairs, along with luminaries including Julie Andrews. Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim is set to be one of the honorees of the once-in-a-century ASCAP Centennial Award
Fun Home's Alison Bechdel's Big Prize
Playwright Samuel D. Hunter and Alison Bechdel, who wrote the graphic novel Fun Home on which the hit off-Broadway and upcoming Great White Way musical is based, are among those who have been honored with 2014 MacArthur Foundation fellowships. The prize is incredibly prestigious, with each fellow receiving a no-strings-attached stipend of $625,000, paid out over five years.
