Casting has been announced for the previously reported world premiere of Katori Hall’s Our Lady of Kibeho. Starla Benford and more will join the production, which is set to begin previews off-Broadway on October 28 and run through December 7. Opening night is scheduled for November 16 in The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center.
Along with Benford as Sister Evangelique, the cast includes Jade Eshete as Girl 3, Danaya Esperanza as Girl 2, Niles Fitch as Emmanuel, Kambi Gathesha as Villager 1, Brent Jennings as Bishop Gahamanyi, Joaquina Kalukango as Marie-Clare Mukangango, Mandi Masden as Anathalie Mukamazimpaka, Owiso Odera as Father Tuyishime, Nneka Okafor as Alphonsine Mumureke, Stacey Sargeant as Girl 1, T. Ryder Smith as Father Flavia, Patrick J. Ssenjovu as Villager 2, Angel Uwamahoro as Girl 4 and Bowman Wright as Nkango.
Directed by directed by Michael Greif, Our Lady of Kibeho is based on real events. Set in 1981, a village girl in Rwanda claims to see the Virgin Mary. Ostracized by her schoolmates and labeled disturbed, everyone refuses to believe, until the impossible starts happening again and again. Skepticism gives way to fear, faith, and fate, causing upheaval in the school community and beyond.
The production will feature scenic design by Rachel Hauck, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Ben Stanton, sound design by Matt Tierney, projection by Peter Nigrini, Special Effects by Greg Meeh, aerial effects by Paul Rubin and music by Michael McElroy.
