Some Broadway faces are about to get musical on the small screen! Tony nominee Santino Fontana, Broadway vet Donna Lynne Champlin and off-Broadway’s Vincent Rodriguez III have joined the cast of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, a Showtime pilot from actress and comedian Rachel Bloom. The half-hour musical comedy series will also feature MADtv’s Michael McDonald. Filming is set to begin in October.
According to TVLine, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will follow Rebecca (Bloom), who gives up her Manhattanite lifestyle to find love in California. Fontana will play Greg, her new West Coast friend, and Champlin will play Paula, a suspicious colleague of Rebecca’s. Marc Webb will direct the pilot, which is co-written by Aline Brosh McKenna.
Fontana most recently starred on Broadway in Act One. He was nominated for a Tony for his performance in Cinderella and also appeared in Brighton Beach Memoirs, Billy Elliot and Sunday in the Park with George. On screen, his voice can be heard in Frozen. Champlin's Broadway credits include Billy Elliot, Sweeney Todd, Hollywood Arms and By Jeeves. Rodriguez has appeared in Here Lies Love off-Broadway.
