Ewan McGregor is finally heading to Broadway in The Real Thing, and we’re having an epic Ewan viewing party in anticipation! And, because we’re all about the Broadway, we’ve been dreaming of the star’s films on the stage. Last year, we were treated to Big Fish; what other Ewan McGregor films should light up the Great White Way? We asked, and you answered! The results are in, and here’s what you had to say.
1. Moulin Rouge—66%
Cue dreamcasting! From the moment this Baz Luhrmann classic was released in 2001, we’ve been picturing what it would look like jumping from screen to stage. And you have too. Admit it. Strictly Ballroom, another Luhrmann flick, received the live treatment earlier this year in Sydney and is soon heading to Melbourne. Here’s hoping that Satine, Christian and the Diamond Dogs are next. And to that, we say come what may.
2. Down With Love—10%
Welcome to the ‘60s? The pastiche love story has fabulous fashion, New York nostalgia and David Hyde Pierce: three components that tend to make a great musical comedy. And any excuse to get someone to play Judy Garland on Broadway, even if in just a cameo, is fine with us. Looking at you, Isabel Keating and Tracie Bennett.
3. Star Wars—7%
John Williams has never composed a score for the stage, but how kriffing awesome would it be to hear his iconic songs on Broadway (and set to lyrics?!)? We’re picturing Julie Taymor-esque puppets on the Curious Incident set. Let’s just hope it’s better than this starship wreck.
