Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today.
Sarah Paulson's Miscast
Stage and screen star Sarah Paulson and Tony-winning producer Fran Weissler will be honored at this year’s Miscast gala on March 30, 2015, at the Hammerstein Ballroom. The event, where Broadway’s hottest stars perform songs from roles in which they would never be cast, will announce its all-star lineup later, but it’s always beyond fabulous. Who can forget Jeremy Jordan’s “Let It Go?” Or Sierra Boggess’ “Think of Me” as Britney Spears?
Excitement From U.K.'s National Theatre
Visiting the U.K. over the next few months? The National Theatre should be top of your list of places to stop by. We now know that Arthur Darvill will star as Long John Silver in Treasure Island from December 10. Meanwhile, Ralph Fiennes will play opposite Indira Varma and Tim McMullan in Man and Superman at the Lyttleton, beginning previews on February 17, 2015. And Curious Incident’s Marianne Elliott will helm Sam Holcroft’s new dark comedy Rules for Living at the Dorfman, starting performances on March 13, 2015.
Lindsay Lohan Hangs Backstage With Oprah
Hats off to Lindsay Lohan (and yes we did just type that) for making her stage debut in London's Speed-the-Plow. Despite all sorts of people unfairly passing judgment on her first preview (in theater we traditionally wait for opening night for that), the Mean Girls star pulled off reasonable reviews (for the most part). We’re sure that her “fairy godmother” Oprah was proud when she stopped by this past weekend, below. The David Mamet play, directed by Lindsay Posner and co-starring Richard Schiff and Nigel Lindsay, will run through November 29 at the Playhouse Theatre.
Lupita Nyong'o Misses Out on Broadway
Also in the audience with Oprah at Lindsay Lohan's show was one Lupita Nyong’o, who won't be getting a Tony to go with her Oscar this season, at least. The actress was, according to the New York Post, tapped to headline Constellations on Broadway opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, before withdrawing so she could appear in the new Star Wars. All’s well that end’s well, though. We know that two-time Olivier Award winner Ruth Wilson will sparkle in the role opposite Gyllenhaal. The production is set to begin performances on December 16 at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre and we can’t wait.
