Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today.
Hear Disney's Into the Woods Early
We might, just might, be a little bit over-excited about the forthcoming Disney Into the Woods movie here at Broadway.com. We know we have to wait until December 25 to see the star-studded film adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine tuner, but it transpires that the soundtrack will be released on December 16. The best early Christmas present we could possibly wish for—we get to hear what Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Johnny Depp, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Billy Magnussen, Lilla Crawford and more sound like singing those songs a whole nine days before we thought we would!
Meryl Streep's Vocal Stretch
Speaking of Meryl Streep (who as we know can hold a tune), the acting legend may star in a film about an opera star, Florence Jenkins, who couldn’t sing. According to the Daily Mail, the Oscar winner is in negotiations to lead the Stephen Frears-helmed movie, opposite potentially Hugh Grant as her manager. Broadway history buffs will note that Jenkins was also the subject of Souvenir, which ran on the Great White Way in 2005 starring Judy Kaye.
Krysta Rodriguez Returns to A Chorus Line
Singular sensation Krysta Rodriguez is going back to her roots. The former Smash star will direct and choreograph A Chorus Line at her alma mater, the Orange County School of the Arts, October 16 through 19. Rodriguez is no stranger to the tuner—she played Bebe in the 2006 revival on the Great White Way.
Jim Parsons to Star in Merton of the Movies
Broadway vet and Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jim Parsons will lead a one-night-only reading of George S. Kaufman and Marc Connelly's Merton of the Movies. Directed by Scott Ellis, the Roundabout benefit event will take place on December 1 at Studio 54.
Carol Burnett on Carrying Brian Dennehy
Carol Burnett stopped by The Today Show on October 10 to chat with hosts Kathie Lee and Hoda about her upcoming turn in A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters. Watch below as the Emmy winner talks texting, touring and teases that she'll have to carry co-star Brian Dennehy "all the way through" the show. You can check the pair out in person at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, October 11 through November 7.
