Legendary Tony-winning composer Stephen Sondheim is collaborating with playwright David Ives for a show at the Public Theater in a few years time. According to The New York Times, the production will be adapted from the Luis Buñuel-helmed surrealist movies The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie and The Exterminating Angel.
Sondheim recently remarked at the New Yorker Festival that Discreet Charm was about a group of people attempting to discover somewhere to dine together, while Exterminating Angel was about a group who eat together but are then trapped in nightmare circumstances.
Sondheim's credits include West Side Story, Gypsy, Follies, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George and Into the Woods. Ives received a Tony nod for Venus in Fur. Other credits include All in the Timing and White Christmas.
